The Marshalltown YMCA-YWCA is a place where 7-year-old Randolph Bear has fun, stays active and has a safe atmosphere to grow, according to his mom, Anay Avila. She’s appreciative he has received a youth scholarship to take part in Y activities such as the after school program, tee ball and dance.
“He’s building confidence, staying active, and learning new skills every day,” Avila said. “Without this support, he wouldn’t have the chance to take part in all these opportunities.”
His mother said Randolph being an only child has made the friendships he’s made at the Y that much more important.
“Often when we’re out, kids recognize him from Fit Kids (after school program) or dance class,” she said. “These activities give him independence, friendships and a true sense of belonging.”
The Y holds an Annual Campaign to help fund scholarships for youth like Randolph.
“Even a small donation can make a huge difference for a child like mine,” Avila said. “You are helping to provide them a safe place to grow, make friends, and stay healthy both physically and mentally. We couldn’t do this without you, and your generosity truly makes an impact. I hope that one day I can give back too, helping another family experience the same opportunities you’ve given us.”
To impact the future generation, consider donating to the Y Annual Campaign. To donate to the Y Annual Campaign send a check to the Marshalltown YMCA-YWCA, 108 Washington St., Marshalltown, IA 51058, or donate online at www.ymca-ywca.org/donate.
