Thankful for her time at the Y

Gunderson made positive impact during her 14 years of welcoming guests

A retirement job for Judy Gunderson led to 14 years of positive impact at the Marshalltown YMCA-YWCA.

She’s greeted thousands of people at the Y through the years with her trademark smile and warm personality while working in member services at the welcome center.

“There’s so much to be thankful for working at the Y,” the Union resident said of the part-time job she’s leaving in a month. “It isn’t lost on me that behind the scenes the management staff stick together and stand up for each other as a team and family.”

Gunderson started at the Y after inquiring about part-time work while finishing up a water exercise class and pondering her next move after retirement. Her personable nature and big heart made an immediate impact at the Y.

“She has been a huge asset to the Marshalltown Y,” said Nicki Reynolds, Membership Director at the Y. “She’s done a great job connecting with our Y members and co-workers through the years. I am sad she will be leaving us, but cherish the work she has put in.”

Judy’s last day at the Y will be May 2. Please join the Y in wishing her well as she completes her time at the Y over the course of the next month.

“I’ve seen families grow together and watched multiple generations use the Y as a space for working out, socializing and finding their healthy place in a safe environment,” Gunderson said. “Whatever I helped accomplish as an employee made me a better person.”
