How much of an impact does the Marshalltown YMCA-YWCA have in just one day? Well, let’s pick one: May 11, 2026
Walking through the Y doors on this day were dozens of fourth-grade youth as part of the Safety Around Water program. This vital program teaches the basics of swim safety to all fourth graders, sixth graders and eighth graders in Marshalltown Schools each year during the school day.
While they were in the pool, the Y started the first session in our latest LIVESTRONG class for cancer survivors. This group will meet for 12 weeks as they work on building muscle, flexibility, endurance and confidence together.
That same morning, our preschool students practiced their songs for their upcoming graduation ceremony. While that was going on, the gym at the Horne-Henry Center was full of pickleball players in the morning, then the courts made way for basketball players who play pick up games during their lunch hour from work.
In the afternoon, a group of Special Olympics athletes came to walk on the track as they prepare for the Special Olympics state meet on May 22. Speaking of getting prepared, that afternoon also included a tee ball practice as youth got ready for their first game.
There were also hundreds of other people from all ages and backgrounds who came to the Y that day to exercise, connect with others, have a cup of coffee and try to realize their best self.
As you can see, the Y is an important hub in our community for a wide range of activities, growth and connections..
Would you consider supporting the Y and programs like these for the long term through our Heritage Club endowment?
If you are more of a “seasoned” community member maybe you can consider including the Y in your will as part of your planned giving.
