Marshalltown woman utilizes the Y for a wide array of activities

Membership at the Marshalltown YMCA-YWCA goes a long way for Gina Eberline. She utilizes the treadmill, running track, lap pool, EGYM, group exercise classes and plays pickleball.

“I love it here,” the Marshalltown resident said. “Everyone is so helpful and so nice.”

Eberline said when her kids were younger she prioritized their needs. But when they grew up, she decided to put herself first. She started eating healthier and exercising regularly on her way to losing more than 40 pounds. She’s now at the Y five days a week, participating in a variety of wellness activities, and training for another half marathon.

“I feel so much better,” she said. “I can do more, I’m not tired and I sleep better.”

Eberline works as a special education paraeducator at Franklin Elementary School, where she has been for 25 years.

She also loves the workout challenges at the Y as her competitive juices get flowing. Eberline now serves as an inspiration for others after they see her success.

“People are so supportive,” she said. “They now say that I push them to do more.”
