Hobby Craft Club donating hearts to NICU families

Our Y Hobby Craft Club presented cloth hearts to Damian Beard of Holding Tiny Hands, which supports families of premature babies at hospitals in Des Moines.

The hearts are used so the premature babies at the hospital can smell something that has the scent of their mother, especially if circumstances keep them from each other. 

Damian runs Holding Tiny Hands with his wife Janice, as both are volunteers for the non-profit organization. They are parents of two premature children and provide a bag full of items and other support to hundreds of families of premature babies each month. 

Our Hobby Craft Club plans to make hundreds of more hearts for these families in the coming months.

Damian is the grandson of Hobby Craft Club member Marilyn Beard.

“At the end of the day I want to love on these families as much as I can,” Damian said.
